SAMPLE WORKSHOP: EFFECTIVE LESSON PLANNING
The following underlying principles will be explored -
What is head, heart and body learning and what is an ideal mixture depending on the age of the students? Concentration spans. (Input session)
Rhythmic teaching and ancient wisdom. How do we breathe psychologically? What are the implications for lesson planning? (Further input and discussion)
Artistic activity - teacher’s will experience a variety of creative artistic activity in the workshop. They will explore how best to utilise these methods in class situations
Teachers will work in groups to examine and identify various activities, in light of the breath analogy.
What are multiple intelligences, and how can a lesson be designed to engage children with different learning styles and abilities?
Smooth transitions between activities
Age-appropriate class management
Lesson follow-up and debrief
Future planning
The need for mentoring can either be school identified or self-requested. Sometimes mentoring can be lost in the busyness of schools and beginning teachers can be left to sink or swim. All teachers can benefit from peer support and mentoring if the right attitude is employed.
